T-Rex Cards Review
Pros:
- Low cost: costs 2 cents/card (Market Standard is 8 cents/card)
- Standard shipping time of 2-5 business days (Market Standard is one week)
Cons:
- Low quality default card (scored 2 out of 5 stars)
- Difficult to create a card from scratch with their design tool (scored 0 out of 5 stars)
- Low quality template designs
- Costs $10 extra to upload a custom image or logo
Conclusion:
T-Rex Cards offers the cheapest, simplest cards on the market. T-Rex Cards is a good option if you need cheap cards that are printed and shipped fast. Instead of digital (flat) print, they offer only raised print, which is a type of print that gives your cards an embossed look and feel. In addition to standard paper card stock, they offer linen cards. However, T-Rex has drawbacks that may make it an undesirable option. Compared to other companies we’ve reviewed T-Rex Cards offers lower quality cards printed on flimsy 9.5 point card stock. Their template designs are simpler and less stylish than those of their competitors. Also, the extra cost of $10 to add your logo to your card is somewhat expensive. We recommend this company for those that have budget or time constraints.
Default Card
We rated T-Rex Cards’ default card 2 out of 5 stars. Their default card stock is 9.5 point, which is much thinner than our Market Standard of 14 point thickness. T-Rex Cards’ default card size is 2” x 3.5”, which is the standard size of a business card. They offer only matte finish, which does not meet our Market Standard of being able to choose between glossy and matte.
Designing Your Card
Uploading Your Own Design
If you have a business card design already created, or you plan to create one, this vendor will let you upload the design to create a card.
Using a Predesigned Template
T-Rex Cards has low quality predesigned templates. They offer only 10 templates and 5 fonts to choose from. Uploading a logo onto a template is a complicated process: you have to email them the logo, they have to approve of the image, and then you pay $10 for the image upload.
Creating a Card from Scratch
We rated T-Rex Cards 0 out of 5 stars for creating a card from scratch. T-Rex’s editor is lacking many standard design tool features. You cannot upload images into the templates with T-Rex Cards. You also cannot drag-and-drop the images they’ve provided around the template. The editor limits the number of text fields on your card. T-Rex Cards’ card editor does not show you the “cut and bleed” lines that help with placement of your design, and they do not let you draw manually on the card. T-Rex Cards does not offer any vertical templates.
In order to see how easy it was to create a card from scratch using T-Rex Cards’ design tool, we attempted to replicate a simple business card we already had. With this extremely limited tool, we were unable to recreate our card.
Options & Upgrades
T-Rex Cards only offers raised cards. The only card stock they offer is 9.5 point card stock, which is incredibly thin compared to our Market Standard of 14 point card stock. The 9.5 point raised-print cards come in a matte finish. They also offer these cards on linen cardstock, which is a special print material not offered by many companies.
Shipping & Delivery
T-Rex Cards’ standard shipping time is 2-5 business days, which is faster than our Market Standard of one week. T-Rex Cards’ standard shipping costs $5.95 for any orders of fewer than 1,500 cards. Next Day shipping is available for $44.31 for 500 cards. 1-2 day shipping is available for $13.40, and 3-day shipping is available for $9.85. We used Austin, TX as a point of comparison for shipping
Customer Support
T-Rex Cards has only email support. We found their email support to be fairly fast with only a one to two-hour wait when answering our questions. We found the overall quality of T-Rex Cards’ customer support to be about average. Despite their lack of instant support, the answers we received from email support were helpful.
Pricing
T-Rex Cards offers 500 business cards for $9.95, which comes out to about 2 cents per card. This is relatively inexpensive compared to other online vendors, as our Market Standard is 8 cents per card. But, it costs an additional $25 per order to print on the back side of your cards, which is relatively expensive compared to other online printing companies. T-Rex Cards also charges $10 extra to upload your logo or image, which is not standard when compared to other business card companies we’ve reviewed. However, they will let you preview your card design as an image file for free before you purchase. Other order sizes range from 1,000 to 10,000 cards. T-Rex Cards does not offer a money-back guarantee, but they do offer to replace or exchange any defective order.
